Neighborhood Bar
Saturday 10:30 AM - 12:45 PM
It's the weekend! Time to meet up with your pals at the local bar. This class will help you ease into a weekend of blues dancing with a focus on musicality and moving to the blues, no labels just great dancing to great music. No experience necessary - come as you are, and go with what you know.
Saturday
2:00 PM - 5:00 PM Juke Joint
Slow Drag, Struttin', Mooche, Grind, and Fishtailin'. That's what you'll see when you walk in to this Memphis juke joint. Damon will teach you about the connection, shape, and technique of several African American vernacular dances that first became popular in the 1890s and can still be found in tin-roof road houses and back-alley clubs. This class will emphasize rhythm and body isolations, as well as style and attitude. Get ready to really strut your stuff!
Savoy
Sunday 1:30 pm - 3:00 PM
The Savoy: the place to see and be seen. Ballroomin' also known as the Swing Walk was the dance of choice to the Blues and torch songs played by the big-bands, for the Savoy's lindy hoppers. Using Fred and & Ginger as their inspiration Harlem's finest added the eye-catching, show-stopping moves they were known for to create a dance that doesn't glide, but strides, spins, and even flies!
Sunday
3:15 pm - 4:45 PM House Party
The weekend is almost over, let's really get down! Now is your chance to get loose, get creative, and really bring together everything you have learned and make it your own. Damon will share some tips and tricks for personalizing your blues dancing, and integrating blues movement on the social floor.
